What is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy is a condition where nerves are damaged causing weakness, burning pain, numbness, tingling, and debilitating balance problems. The damage to the nerves can be caused by many different problems in the body. Poor blood flow to the nerves, toxic levels of sugar in the blood (diabetes), chronic infections, pesticide exposure, auto-immune disorders and genetic variants are a few of the causes of this debilitating condition. The cause is different for every patient and it must be discovered to help the nerves heal!
Generally, symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in an effected area include:
- Numbness/Tingling
- Burning Pain
- Unusual and/or loss of sensations
- Muscle weakness
- Deep Stabbing Pain
- Balance Problems

Can Peripheral Nerves Heal?
Yes! It is well established in the scientific literature that peripheral nerves can and do heal. The key issue is that not only do we need to get the nerves healing but we have to stop whatever is causing the nerve damage in the first place. When the underlying cause of the neuropathy is discovered and proper support for the nerves are provided it optimizes the ability for the nerves to heal!
The treatment we provide has four main goals…
Optimize the environment within the body for nerve healing.
Increase blood flow to the nerves.
Stimulate the nerves that are damaged (small fiber, large diameter, or motor nerves) to reduce pain and improve balance. Decrease brain-based pain.
Our exclusive treatment system at one of the nation’s top neuropathy treatment centers increases blood flow to the nerves in the feet and/or hands, which helps to rejuvenate nerves naturally and has returned many of our patient’s feet and/or hands to normal. No surgery. No addictive medications.
Our proprietary and comprehensive treatment program utilizes up to 8 different state-of-the-art technologies and is unlike any treatment program you may have already experienced.
The amount of treatment needed to allow the nerves to recover varies from person to person and can only be determined after a detailed neurological and vascular evaluation.

Melanie – Regional Manager / Quality Control Coordinator
Hi, my name is Melanie Dotson and I have been working for Dr. Ole at Asuta Health as the office manager, assistant, and weight loss coach for five years. My life started in a small town in Germany, where as a teenager, I grew a passion for helping people. When I graduated high school, I pursued a career in nursing, where I soon became a pediatric nurse for six years prior to moving to the United States. After having my son, I changed my focus to retail, where for seventeen years, I excelled in customer service. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago, when I found my calling. I started receiving care for ongoing back pain. After a year of adjustments, the results were unbelievable. My spine was properly aligned, my back and shoulder pain was almost gone, and my overall health had improved. I found myself having more energy while being in a better emotional and spiritual state.
This to me was a miracle that I had to share. I applied for the job at Asuta Health and was hired in July of 2018. I quickly started growing my knowledge in chiropractic care, wellness and neuropathy. This passion has allowed me to help people find a better path to health and wellness. By helping patients improving their quality of life and being their best self, it allows for permanent results without being miserable in the process. I have been receiving chiropractic care now for five years and my life has changed. I now enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling the country, or just sitting in front of the fire place with a good book.

Vee – Assistant Manager / Neuropathy Coordinator / X-ray Tech
Hello my name is Valeria Santiago but in the office I go by Vee! I Graduated from Lincoln High School in May 2015 and then Graduated from Iowa State University in December 2019 with a B.S in Kinesiology and Health. I recently became certified as an X-Ray technician and take all X-rays in office. I also lead informational seminars on neuropathy in and out of the office to bring awareness to more people that there is help other than medications and surgeries!
My passion for helping people really started when my grandmother became diagnosed with diabetes at age 60 and passed at the age of 70. My grandmother also suffered from Neuropathy but back in 2010 not many people knew much about neuropathy or types of treatments. That is where my drive comes from today and why I strive to give my best to our patients. When I’m not in the office you can find me, shopping, traveling, reading, going on motorcycle trips, spending time with my family and my dogs Rambo & Teddy!

Brianna Heimann - Exam Tech
I grew up on a small acreage in Adel, Iowa. Since a young age, I have had a passion for health and sciences which led me to get my Bachelor’s in Kinesiology from Iowa State University. During undergraduate school, I started working at an Alzheimer’s care center as a CNA and CMA. After working with people experiencing a lot of chronic pain and illness, and trying to manage those conditions with medication, I decided to shift my focus and passion to preventative and holistic medicine. I believe the best way to a happy and healthy life starts with an active lifestyle, nutritional diet, and natural treatments. I am excited to be on this journey of helping others at Asuta Health and help guide people through their treatments to improve their quality of life. Every day is rewarding when patients come in speaking of their new accomplishments and ambitions with the positive results they experience from our customized care plans. The knowledge I have gained through college and work experiences continues to benefit me and my family by being able to stay active with hobbies. In my free time, I love to fish, play sand volleyball, hike, and take road trips with family and friends.
